The past decade witnesses a surge of empirical research on translanguaging in educational contexts of English medium instruction (EMI) and content and language integrated learning (CLIL). In this talk, I will provide an analysis of the methodological development, theoretical underpinning and research themes of translanguaging in EMI and CLIL contexts, based on a review on research studies on translanguging in EMI/CLIL across various subject disciplines, published from 2015 to 2022. In-depth analysis identifies the major methodological approaches and research themes. Following the discussion on the implications for methodology, research, and pedagogy, two empirical studies on translanguaging in higher education will be introduced for illustration.
