The history of Egypt extends back more than 7,000 years, with the Dynasties of Ancient Egypt flourishing for more than 3,000 years, longer than any other one civilization in history. This culture produced the Great Pyramid of Giza, the tallest structure in the world until into 19th century, a Wonder of the Ancient World that still stands today. In order to paint a clear picture of how ancient Egyptian civilization began, and to better understand the history of ancient Egyptian art and architecture, a wide range of topics will be discussed. In this lecture, Dr. Soliman will give a brief introduction to the history of ancient Egypt, and will cover the main characteristics and themes within Egypt’s three great kingdoms: the Old kingdom, the Middle Kingdom, and the New Kingdom. Dr. Soliman will also discuss ancient Egyptian art, architecture, and history, along with analyses of famous artworks, and all the secrets they hold.
Mahmoud Soliman
Mahmoud Soliman (马晓宇) is a Lecturer for the School of Asian and African Studies at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU). He obtained his Ph. D. in International Relations from SISU and a Master’s Degree in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics from Zhejiang Normal University. He is also a Certified Teacher of Arabic for Non-native Speakers. Dr. Soliman is an Egyptologist, and official Chinese language Tour Guide in his home country of Egypt, where he has spent many years of working with the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities.
