Professor Ian Newton will provide a comprehensive understanding of the International Labour Organization (ILO) by introducing backgrounds for its establishment during World War I, its aims in the present days, and China’s role in it. Additionally, Ian will offer some coaching on writing official documents in the context of international organizations.

Ian Newton is Professor of Interpretation Studies at the Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translate (GIIT), SISU, member of the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC), and is also Executive Editor of the Journal of Translation Studies.
He obtained an MA in Modern and Mediaeval Languages (German, Russian) from the University of Cambridge and then was trained as a conference interpreter at the European Commission in Brussels and in the United Nations system. He served as International Labour Organization (ILO) Chief Interpreter for a long period, mainly responsible for interpretation services and coordinating affairs. Additionally, he has lectured in conference interpretation at the University of Geneva.
