内容提要

This talk tells the story of how human beings have imagined automatic translation machines from the first known instance, in 1659, to today's generative AI tools. The talk draws on our research at the University of Bristol into everyday uses and public perceptions of machine translation and artificial intelligence.

Carol O'Sullivan

Dr. Carol O'Sullivan is an Associate Professor in Translation Studies at the University of Bristol, UK. Her expertise lies at the intersection of language, culture, and film, specializing in Translation Studies, Audiovisual Translation, and Literary Translation. Her research focuses particularly on the history of film translation, including subtitling, silent cinema, and foreign film distribution.
