In this lecture, Dr. Johnson outlines how new developments in the theory and method of educational language policy research relate to a history of language policy and planning (LPP) scholarship. As the LPP field has developed, new theories and methods have contributed to an increasing understanding of the creation, interpretation, and appropriation of language policy texts and discourses. In particular, He considers how new applications of theoretical orientations – including neoliberalism, normalization, and raciolinguisitcs – enhance the field. Still, many perennial and central questions have not been answered within the field and he highlights these as possible avenues for future research.
