In this lecture, Dr. Ali Adjorlu will introduce VR (Virtual Reality, 虚拟现实技术) and AR (Augmented Reality, 增强现实技术) technologies and how they can be essential tools for teachers working with children and adolescents with mental disabilities. Additionally, he will present several examples of VR and AR applications designed to teach social and daily living skills to children and adolescents with mental disabilities such as ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder, 自闭症谱系障碍), ADHD (Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder, 注意缺陷与多动障碍), and learning disabilities.
Ali Adjorlu
Dr. Ali Adjorlu is a postdoctoral researcher at the Multisensory experience lab. He did a Ph.D. on how VR can be used to teach social and daily living skills to children and adolescents diagnosed with ASD. During the Ph.D., he was in close cooperation with teachers and psychologists working with children and adolescents diagnosed with ASD, including several VR interventions were designed, developed and evaluated. These interventions address several social and daily living skills required for independent adulthood, such as shopping, safe street crossing, money management, turn-taking, sharing, disruptive classroom behavior, and social anxiety. Currently, he focuses on how music therapy in VR can be used to develop social skills in children with ASD while teaching the course interaction design at the Medialogy program at Aalborg university in Copenhagen.
