成熟的学术都必须经历从学术状态到自我主张的决定性转折，当我们谈论当代中国学术话语体系建设时，最基本的目标便是从原先对外部学术的“学徒状态”，逐步取得自我主张。真正的学术，意味着能够正确表述并且真正抓住过程中的实质问题，并能够对它做出正确的理解、把握和阐述。深入到中国的社会现实，获得学术上的自我主张，这两个方面实际上乃是同一件事情，而这件事情正是当代中国学术的根本任务。唯有在这样的基础上，才谈得上中国学术走出其“学徒状态”，才谈得上当代中国的学术话语体系建设。

在信息爆炸的全球化时代，“时间之墙”--各地空间和时间上的差异正在不断缩小。翻译应该怎样与时俱进地发展？本次讲座将介绍国际翻译研究界对这一问题的不同看法，让听众了解本地化与翻译之间的基本区别。

It was suggested that the English terms "China” and "Chinese" do not translate the indigenous terms Hua, Xia, Han or even Zhongguo now or at any given point in history. How does the western use of "China" become an officially mandated term for this country to project a continuous historical entity from antiquity to the present? How does the people the west called "Chinese" identify their own country, its culture, language and population, particularly in a context that calls for parity in international relationship. We shall comb through history for a better understanding of the issues at heart. Upon this reflection, it may be apt and useful to re-conceptualise cultural turn in translation, and redefine cultural competence in terms of cultural confidence.
