Resumen: El cognitivismo es un punto de vista científico sobre la mente humana que, aunque tiene antecedentes en casi todas las culturas, modernamente se inició en un simposio celebrado en California en 1948, el cual, desde el primer momento, adoptó una perspectiva interdisciplinar. Allí se reunieron lingüistas, informáticos, antropólogos, psicólogos, neurólogos, es decir, practicantes de ciencias muy diferentes, pero que tenían en común su interés por la mente humana. En este ciclo de conferencias se traza una breve historia de la ciencia cognitiva y se analiza el fundamento semiótico de la misma, considerando las dos perspectivas enfrentadas que han guiado su desarrollo, la que prioriza el sentido y la que prioriza la forma. Seguidamente se analiza el aspecto neurológico del cognitivismo y se muestra cómo su propiedad funcional más destacada, la fractalidad, es susceptible de servir de fundamento a cualquier idioma. Finalmente se procede a un estudio cognitivo monográfico de la sintaxis y del léxico del español.
Angel López García-Molins (Zaragoza, 1949) , doctor de Filología Hispánica, ha sido sucesivamente Profesor Ayudante del Departamento de Lengua Española de la Universidad de Zaragoza (1972-1973), Profesor Titular de Lingüística y Lengua Española del Colegio Universitario de Huesca (1974-77), Catedrático de Lengua y Literatura Española del I.N.B.), Profesor Agregado de Gramática General y Crítica Literaria de la Universidad de Valencia (1978-80), Catedrático de Lingüística General de la Universidad de Valencia desde 1981. Es también el fundador y director del Instituto Valenciano de Lengua y Cultura Amerindia) y coeditor de la serie "Lenguas y culturas amerindias".
Su contribución más destacada a la Lingüística es la gramática liminar, una teoría del lenguaje basada en las relaciones entre la lengua y la conciencia lingüística, las cuales son formalizadas matemáticamente a base de la topología general. Sus obras más importantes de gramática liminar son: Para una gramática liminar, Madrid, Ed.Cátedra, 1980; Fundamentos de lingüística perceptiva, Madrid, Gredos, 1989; Introduction to Topological Linguistics, Minnesota, 1990; Gramática del español I. La oración compuesta, Madrid, Arco, 1994; Gramática del español II. La oración simple, Madrid, Arco, 1996; Gramática del español III. Las partes de la oración, Madrid, Arco, 1998, obra en tres volúmenes por la que se le concedió el premio Honoré Chavée de la Académie des Belles Lettres de l'Institut de France.
Ángel López García-Molins ha animado muchos proyectos editoriales: Fundador de la revista Cuadernos de Filología en 1979 y en la actualidad Director Honorario de la misma; Codirector de la Biblioteca Lingüística Catalana; Managing Editor de LynX (A Monographic Series in Linguistics and World Perception); Miembro del consejo de redacción de las revistas Hispanic Linguistics, Tropelías, Español actual, Lingüística española actual, Sprachen der Welt, Pragmalingüística, Language Design, Verba, Revista de Investigación Lingüística, ELUA.
Ángel López García-Molins no ha reducido su actividad intelectual al ámbito universitario, sino que se ha interesado siempre por intervenir en la vida pública. Fruto de ello han sido dos libros que obtuvieron sendos premios: El rumor de los desarraigados, Barcelona, 1985, XIII premio Anagrama; y El sueño hispano ante la encrucijada del racismo contemporáneo, Editora Regional de Extremadura, Mérida, 1991, VIII Premio Constitución.

李维屏,上海外国语大学教授,博士生导师,教育部“跨世纪优秀人才”, 在聘高级专家。曾任英语学科学术委员会主任,外语学科学术委员会主任,现任《英美文学研究论丛》主编,《外语高教研究》主编,上海市外国文学学会会长、党工组组长,中国高校外语学科发展联盟秘书长,中国高校外国文学跨学科研究委员会主任委员,国家社科基金重大项目首席专家,中国翻译协会资深翻译家,享受国务院特殊津贴专家。已发表著作、教材和译作近40部,论文70余篇,并承担了多个国家和教育部社科基金项目。主要著作有《英美意识流小说》《英美现代主义文学概观》《乔伊斯的美学思想和小说艺术》《英国小说艺术史》《英国小说史》《英国小说人物史》《英国女性小说史》《英国短篇小说史》《英国文学思想史》《美国文学思想史》《美国短篇小说史》和《美国女性小说史》等。荣获教育部高等学校人文社科优秀科研成果二等奖。

In today’s changing world, where teaching and learning approaches are undergoing substantial and inspiring reforms, the value of teacher professional development (TPD) programs is more apparent than ever. This is due to the fact that formal and informal professional development programs equip teachers with the skills and knowledge they need to adapt their teaching methods to new educational approaches. Considering this, factors prompting teachers to regularly attend to professional development programs should be uncovered. With this necessity in mind, many scholars have looked into the predictive role of different interpersonal and environmental factors in teachers’ intention to attend professional development programs. Nonetheless, few scholars have delved into the role of personal factors in predicting teachers’ willingness to participate in professional development programs. Against this backdrop, this inquiry addressed the role of two personal factors, namely growth mindset and enthusiasm for teaching, in Iranian English teachers’ willingness to engage in professional development programs. In doing this, three self-report measures of growth mindset, enthusiasm for teaching, and desire for professional development were administered to 311 Iranian English teachers. The survey responses were subjected to statistical analysis using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modeling (SEM). Results uncovered that growth mindset and enthusiasm for teaching can trigger Iranian English teachers to engage in professional development programs. The results of this investigation would be illuminating for language teachers, teacher educators, and educational authorities.
Ali Derakhshan is Professor of Applied Linguistics at the English Language and Literature Department, Golestan University, Gorgan, Iran. He has been a member of the Iranian Elites Foundation since 2015. He has also been selected as a distinguished researcher by the Teaching English Language and Literature Society of Iran in 2021. His name appeared in Stanford University’s list of the world’s top 2% of most influential scientists in 2022, 2023, and 2024. He has published in accredited international journals, including Computers and Education, Review of Educational Research, Language Teaching Research, System, Assessing Writing, Applied Linguistics Review, Studies in Second Language Learning and Teaching, Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development, ELT Journal, English for Specific Purposes, International Review of Applied Linguistics in Language Teaching, International Journal of Applied Linguistics, Thinking Skills and Creativity, Current Psychology, Asia Pacific Education Researcher, European Journal of Education, Educational Studies, Pragmatics and Society, Journal of Psycholinguistic Research, Porta Linguarum, etc. His monograph The “5Cs” positive teacher interpersonal behaviors: Implications for learner empowerment and learning in an L2 context was published by Springer in 2022. His co-authored book Instructed second language pragmatics for the speech acts of request, apology, and refusal: A meta-analysis has been recently published by Springer. His research interests are positive psychology, teacher education, learner-individual differences, cross-cultural interpersonal factors in educational psychology, interlanguage pragmatics, and intercultural communication.

The trajectory of Japanese Studies in different parts of the world is different because of different historical and cultural contexts. In this lecture I would like to explore the various aspects of different Japanese Studies Departments in ASEAN universities to showcase the intricate relationship between geopolitical and cultural background and area studies, and discuss how these different departments contribute to the study of Japan. I will first provide a short survey of the development of Japanese Studies departments in Southeast Asia. Examples from a few universities and relevant organizations, including NUS, will be used as case studies. Some of the questions I would like to address include: what are some of the unique features of each program in the region? What account for the similarities and differences amongst the Japanese Studies departments in the region? What are the possible ways for ASEAN Japanese Studies departments connect with peers beyond Southeast Asia?

King Akhenaton, originally known as Amenhotep IV, ruled Egypt during the 18th Dynasty (circa 1351-1334 BCE). His reign is notable for its radical departure from traditional Egyptian religious and cultural practices, making him one of the most controversial pharaohs in ancient Egyptian history. Akhenaton ascended the throne as Amenhotep IV but later changed his name to Akhenaton, meaning "Effective for Aton." His primary reform was the establishment of a monotheistic worship of the sun disk, Aton, in place of the traditional polytheistic beliefs. He moved the capital from Thebes to a newly built city called Akhetaten (modern-day Amarna) to honor Aton. Under Akhenaton, there was a significant shift in art and culture. The art style became more naturalistic, departing from the idealized forms of previous periods. This new style reflected the king’s vision of a more personal and intimate relationship between the king and the divine. The religious reforms disrupted the power of the traditional priesthood, especially those of Amun, who had been influential in Thebes. This led to resistance and unrest among the populace and the priestly class. Akhenaton's policies also affected Egypt’s foreign relations, as his focus on religious reform led to neglect in diplomacy and military affairs. After Akhenaton’s death, his successor, Tutankhamun, restored traditional polytheistic worship, and Akhenaton’s reforms were largely dismantled. His name was removed from records, and his city of Akhetaten was abandoned. Despite this, Akhenaton’s reign remains significant for its bold experimentation with religious and artistic innovation. King Akhenaton’s reign was a period of dramatic change and experimentation in ancient Egypt. While his religious reforms were short-lived, they represented a bold challenge to the status quo and left a lasting legacy in both art and religious history.
