A main difficulty for establishing a causal relation between masculine culture and corporate disclosure is that both are often endogenously determined. Exploiting the exogenous increase in gender diversity following the Act on the promotion of female participation and career advancement in the workplace (Act No. 64), we examine how heightened gender equality concerns in masculine firms affect managers’ disclosure. Using a pseudo difference-in-differences test, we find that firms with a strong culture of masculinity increase the quality of the management forecast compared to their counterpart after Act No. 64. Moreover, this increase is concentrated among firms with higher risks, weaker monitoring control mechanisms, and fewer information disclosures. Our findings are consistent with the inference that masculine firms tend to hire more female managers after Act No. 64, and increased female managers positively improve the disclosure quality by increasing risk aversion, monitoring effort, and information access.

联合国多语制的具体内容随着国际政治大环境的变化而不断变迁。在第一阶段（1945年－1969年），多语制作为联合国的创始原则，规定了5种官方语言和2种工作语言，西班牙语的地位不断上升。在第二阶段（1970年－1999年），许多成员国抱怨本组织语言使用不平衡，要求将多语制上升为联合国核心价值，并设立多语问题协调员。在这一阶段，中文地位逐渐上升，阿拉伯语进入联合国，德语获得一定地位。在第三阶段（2000年至今），联合国致力于提升语言问题的关注度，设立国际语言年（2008年）、国际土著语言年（2019年）、“国际土著语言十年”（2022年－2032年），并为6种官方语言设立“联合国语言日”。然而联合国多语政策实施面临多重可能，系统内大多数机构选择英语为唯一工作语言。本世纪以来，联合国开展了3次多语制落实大检查，联检组分别在2002年、2011年和2020年提交了评估报告。不过，由于缺乏核心成员国的支持，加上经费紧张，人力资源短缺，以及不同成员国的语言意识形态和利益诉求各不相同，语言平等并没有真正成为内部共识，联合国系统内英语“一语独大”的局面难以改变。

In this lecture Ourania Katavouta will give an introduction to the history of Modern Greek Literature. She will talk briefly about the historical facts and the important literary works of a broad period, starting from the late Byzantine era (11th century), moving to the Ottoman Empire (1453), the Cretan Renaissance and the Hellenic Enlightenment till the Revolution of Independence in 1821, which led to the formation of the modern Greek state. In this broad historic period, what were the most representative literary works? Who were the most important poets, authors and scholars? Ourania Katavouta will begin with the first literary text written in modern Greek language, the epic poem of “Digenis Akritas” and later on she will present “Erotokritos”, the most popular romance in verse that was produced during the Cretan Renaissance. Then, she will give a brief account of the most important scholars of the Hellenic Enlightenment and she will finish with the poet Dionysios Solomos, whose poem “Hymn to the Liberty” became Greece’s national hymn.
