In this talk I report the research on the languages of Alaska, conducted by myself and my colleagues. The modern state of Alaska is a large territory of North America with a variety of languages. The history of Alaska is strongly connected with Russia, the first European country that explored and colonized Alaska beginning from the mid-18th century. The early colonization of Alaska by Russian was economically motivated. Alaska interested Russians as a source of furs that played a major role in the trade between Siberia and China. Subsequently Russians explored other Alaskan resources and interacted with the indigenous population. Our research group focuses on two linguistic realms of modern Alaska. One of those is the languages of the Athabaskan, or Dene, languages, primarily the Upper Kuskokwim language of interior Alaska. Upper Kuskokwim Indians are a small group traditionally residing in the upper drainage of the Kuskokwim river. The Upper Kuskokwim people probably never included more that several hundred people, but they exploited a large territory in a semi-nomadic fashion. I will cover topics such as language contacts with other indigenous and non-indigenous groups, dialectal variation, linguistic identities of the Upper Kuskokwim people, and the modern language policy in the community. Another linguistic realm in Alaska that we also research is Alaskan Russian. During the time of Russian America, a social class of creoles was formed. These were people of mixed descent, mostly born from Russian fathers and indigenous mothers. They developed a special variety of Russian that is different from all forms and dialects of Eurasian Russian. I will explain the rise of Alaskan Russian, the linguistic and sociolinguistic aspects of this variety, and its present day status. In addition, in my talk I will provide a context of other languages of Alaska that are different in important ways from Upper Kuskokwim and Alaskan Russian.

Andrej A. Kibrik is a Russian linguist. In 1984 he graduated from the Department of Theoretical and Applied linguistics of Lomonosov Moscow State University and has been working at the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) since then. Currently he is Director of the Institute as well as Professor at Lomonosov Moscow State University. His research interests include: language and cognition, spoken and written discourse, multimodality, linguistic diversity, theoretical functional linguistics, field linguistics, sign languages, native American (particularly Athabaskan) languages, languages of Russia, Russian grammar, and language policy. He has published papers and books on various topics, such as theory and typology of reference, languages of Alaska, multichannel communication, cognitive discourse analysis and language revitalization. He is the chief editor of the multivolume publication “Languages of the World” being prepared at the Institute of Linguistics RAS. He is a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences since 2025. He has been a member of the European Academy (Academia Europaea) since 2013 and a foreign member of the Academy of Sciences of Abkhazia since 2024. In the past he worked in the USA as a Fulbright scholar and was a Humboldt Foundation grant recipient (Germany).

梅德明,上海外国语大学教授、博士生导师,任中国外语战略研究中心学术委员会主任、国家教材委员会专家委员会委员、教育部高中及义务教育英语课程标准修订组组长。长期从事语言学及英语教学研究,主编《高级口译教程》《中级口译教程》等国家级规划教材,主持《大中小学一条龙英语人才培养模式研究》国家级科研项目。担任教育部高中及义务教育英语学科课程标准修订组组长,主持《义务教育英语课程标准(2022年版)》修订工作。2011年获上海高等学校教学名师奖,2021年获全国教材建设先进个人称号。

古埃及三千过年历史中充满了神祇却不见哲学的影子,因此埃及学家们大多不认为古埃及文明中有哲学存在,充其量不过是一点智慧文学而已。然而,真的对人类哲学有深入的洞悉则会发现,古埃及不仅有自为哲学(智慧文学),还有自在哲学统领着整个古埃及的艺术。无论是古埃及陵墓和神庙墙壁上的浮雕、壁画中被学者们用“正面律”、无透视,还是空间折叠的奇怪画面,都不是简单层面的表层解说能够真正读懂的。古埃及艺术是建立在古埃及认知哲学的基础之上的艺术遗存,遵循的是代表世界秩序与运行规律的真理(玛阿特)原则。要深刻理解古埃及艺术,不深入探索古埃及哲学是浅薄无知的。
埃及学博士,东北师范大学世界古典文明史研究所教授,博士生导师,主攻埃及学。中国世界古代史研究会理事,中国外国传记文学研究会理事,中国社会科学院外国考古研究中心客座研究员,埃及苏伊士运河大学客座教授,哈尔滨工程大学客座教授,内蒙古民族大学兼职教授。2016年应美国孟菲斯大学邀请带队前往埃及卡尔纳克神庙考古,为期一个考古季。这是中国人第一次在埃及考古。2018年-19年前往埃及蒙图神庙考古,这是中国考古队第一次到埃及考古。

曾应邀为中央电视台“百家讲坛”主讲《古埃及文明失落之谜》,应邀为东方卫视“世界文明讲坛”主讲《古埃及文明》。曾陪同李克强、吴邦国等国家领导人访问埃及,讲解古埃及文明。主持 “古埃及传记铭文研究”、“《孔子的政治学》与《孟子的政治学》外译项目”等教育部和国家社科项目。曾应邀在美国孟菲斯大学讲学,亦应北京大学、武汉大学、西北大学与中国社科院等几十所大学及研究机构,广东图书馆、黑龙江图书馆、辽宁图书馆等图书馆,河南博物院、山西博物院、辽宁博物院、安徽博物院等各省博物院邀请进行学术讲座数十场并受聘多个各省博物馆为其举办的“古埃及文明”展作学术顾问。

The integration of Generative AI (GenAI), such as ChatGPT, into language teaching presents transformative opportunities for enhancing writing, vocabulary acquisition, and learner engagement. This talk explores empirical findings on GenAI's strengths—including its role as a feedback tool, brainstorming assistant, and metacognitive resource—while addressing critical limitations, such as inaccuracies, ethical concerns, and over-reliance. Drawing on recent studies (e.g., Teng, 2025; Mizumoto et al., 2024), I highlight how AI-assisted writing improves lexical diversity and syntactic complexity but risks impersonal output and reduced critical thinking. Key themes include: (1) the importance of metacognitive awareness in leveraging AI effectively, (2) strategies for human-AI collaboration (e.g., guided prompting, iterative revision), and (3) the need for institutional guidelines to mitigate plagiarism and inequality. The talk concludes with future directions, emphasizing the irreplaceable role of teachers in fostering AI literacy and curating authentic reading materials to counterbalance AI’s limitations. Educators will gain actionable insights to harness GenAI as a complementary tool while nurturing learners’ autonomy and critical evaluation skills.
PhD (HKBU), is an Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics at Macao Polytechnic University, where he also coordinates the PhD program in Applied Language Sciences. His research specializes in second language vocabulary acquisition, reading and writing. He has published extensively for those focal topics. He is a Highly Ranked Scholar (Lifetime-top 0.5% in the specialty of vocabulary learning, and prior 5 years-top 0.5% in all fields of social sciences and 0.2% in the field of linguistics) according to ScholarGPS (2025). In recent years, he transferred his research to GenAI from the perspective of metacognition, with increasing Google Citation for publication in AI research, and an overall Google citation of about 7,000. He is recognized as one of the top 2% most-cited researchers (single year) worldwide (2021–2025) and career-long impact (2024-2025) in the area of Language and Linguistics by Stanford University. He is the founding president of Global Digital Applied Linguistics Association (GloDAL). He is co-editor for Reading in a Foreign Language (SCOPUS/ESCI, Q1), Asian Journal of English Language Teaching, and editor-in-chief for International Journal of TESOL Studies (SCOPUS Q1), and Digital Applied Linguistics.

沈剑,律师,本科毕业于上海外国语大学国际新闻专业,之后在美国学习工作超过十年,先后获得新闻学硕士、体育管理硕士和法学博士学位,以GPA满分、全美卓越毕业生的身份(Order of the Coif)从法学院毕业。在拿到德克萨斯州的律师执照后,他分别在休斯敦和香港供职于美国顶级律师事务所Haynes and Boone LLP和Kirkland & Ellis LLP。2010年回国后,他为国内投资巨擘复星集团服务;作为其法务总监,主持了中国首支外商投资私募基金(QFLP)和首支跨境双币种平行投资基金的设立。此后,他在江苏医疗器械科技产业园负责初创企业的孵化运营,顺利完成国家科技部的火炬计划项目。加入上海段和段律师事务所后,他的业务重点为中国企业的海外诉讼,尤其专注于外贸关税、知识产权、实体清单、以及双反调查等领域。他已出版《致胜文书:100个有说服力的庭审诉讼写作技巧》《世界反兴奋剂机构诉孙杨案的幕后真相》等专著,并为多所家高校讲授海外诉讼实务课程。
